Many people talk about detox. Our liver is actually doing it, all day, every day. And if we want to detoxify, the best thing we can do is boost our liver’s own detoxifying enzymes.

Flushing out toxins from the body is an important thing to do to maintain your body to stay healthy and clear mind. The liver is the main organ of detoxification.  Anything that helps liver function and relieves the congestion in the liver helps to detox our body. The body often feels fatigued as the result of toxins gets accumulated over the years through unhealthy lifestyles and toxins in the environment through air, water, food, etc.

In the long run, when the toxins go up beyond the threshold, it leads to various chronic diseases like cancer. In this article, let's see how we can improve detoxification by the food we eat daily.

Cucumber: On average around 95% water, this veggie helps flush out toxins and alkalize the body while delivering a powerful nutrient punch.

Garlic: High in sulfur needed for detoxification. It Stimulates the liver to encourage the production of detoxification enzymes. Chope Garlic cloves finely and wait for 10 minutes and then consume it with food or salad.

Cruciferous Vegetables

Sulforaphane is the most potent natural phase 2 enzyme-inducer known. That’s one of our liver’s detoxication systems. So where do we find this stuff? Broccoli, which produces more than any other known plant in the world. In micromoles per gram seed, fresh weight broccoli’s number one, then kohlrabi, and cauliflower gets the bronze.

But at the same time, there’s none actually in these vegetables, until you bite it. In one part of the cell, it keeps an enzyme, called myrosinase, and in another part, it keeps something called glucoraphanin. Until some herbivore starts chewing on the poor thing.  Then cells get crushed, the enzyme mixes with the glucoraphanin, which is a type of glucosinolate, and sulforaphane is born.

But there is a problem. When we cook Broccoli or other cruciferous vegetables, the enzyme myrosinase gets destroyed.

The Only Option is, Chope finely and keep it for 20 minutes, until the sulforaphane is formed. Otherwise, sprinkle a quarter teaspoon of mustard seed powder with steamed broccoli to supply myrosinase.

Lentils: extremely fiber-rich (1 cup cooked has 62.5% of your RDA!), lentils aids in toxin elimination, lower cholesterol, and balance blood sugar.

Sunflower seeds: These little slivers of sunshine are not only high in selenium and Vitamin E but also assist the liver’s detoxing capabilities and prevent cholesterol build up in the blood and arteries.

Walnuts and Flaxseeds: infuse the body with healthy omega-3 oils to assist detoxification.

Organic Turmeric Powder: It stimulates liver function. (Also a great addition to your diet for all-around health). Pinch or black pepper increases the absorption of curcumin, the active phytochemical capable of killing cancer stem cells.
